Ipswich hold climate change awareness day7.57.22pm BST (GMT +0100) Sat 21st Oct 2006
Ipswich held a Climate Change awareness day on Friday October 13th. Ipswich Borough has decided to raise awareness of the issues surrounding climate change in order to lead the way in reducing carbon dioxide emissions in Ipswich. Local Liberal Democrats will continue to raise the profile of this issue and ensure that Ipswich Borough Council under our influence continues to push for 'greener' initiatives at the Council and raise awareness in the public as to what they can do. As part of the special day the Al Gore film "An Inconvenient Truth" was screened along with an exhibition at The Ipswich Corn Exchange. Look out for the Liberal Democrats 'Green Tax Switch' Policy. Liberal Democrats want to cut income tax for all, saving the typical family over £1,000 per annum whilst diverting that tax onto environmentally damaging activity. In that way good things like work are rewarded and bad things that damage the environment are discouraged. Taxation is an excellent means of changing behaviour but there needs to be both a stick and a carrot.
