Lib Dem Richard Atkins "Proud we are finally getting our University".

The headquarters building of the new University Campus Suffolk was given the go-ahead last week. The approval from the Borough's planning committee is the last major hurdle before contractors can be appointed and building proceed.

Cllr. Richard Atkins, Lib Dem portfolio holder for economic development said "The Borough Council has supported the UCS project from the very beginning and has invested heavily in it. We are now seeing the fruits of that policy and I wish the staff and students every success".

The £21 million building is set to open in 2008 and will provide all the core facilities a University needs plus retail space and a cafe.
