CCTV cameras

Nearly £100,000 has been spent on more CCTV which monitor streets in the area this includes funding which came from Lib Dem Councillors Andrew Cann and Inga Lockington own budgets.

Residents in the area are already reporting major improvements in security and their perception of trouble. They should now feel an increased reassurance that they have a friendly eye watching over them following the installation of the new cameras.

Permanent cameras have been installed at Barrack Corner where Portman Road meets London Road. At the junction of Portman Road and Handford Road. On Civic Drive near the Handford Road roundabout .

A mobile camera is also to be placed in London Road, which is at the centre of efforts to solve Ipswich's street prostitution problem. The cameras are adding to the borough council's broad CCTV coverage of the area around the red-light district.

These new cameras are in addition to 4 cameras already operating in the Handford Road / London Road area including one opposite Victoria St.
