Adult Social Care

Better support for family carers - Better joined up thinking.

Social Care is one of the biggest demands on Suffolk County Council’s budget. It is also an issue on which the Liberal Democrats, under Ed Davey’s leadership, are taking a prominent lead nationally. Better support for family carers and better joined up thinking between the NHS and our County Council adult care services is crucial.

The state of our roads in Ipswich and Suffolk

Dealing with potholes and managing streetworks

New government funding has been announced for road and pothole maintenance. Liberal Democrats will demand that this is spent to the full on our Ipswich and Suffolk roads. Streetworks by utility companies cause continuous congestion, delays and frustration. Better co-ordination, and a higher standard of road re-instatement are essential.

Ipswich Traffic - a Northern Bypass?

Easy to Promise – Hard to Deliver.

A Northern Bypass for Ipswich has been on the agenda for more years than many of us can remember. What we have learned in that time is that while a Northern Bypass is easy for politicians to promise, it’s very hard to deliver. We should not let the wait for a Northern Bypass divert us from other measures to relieve traffic congestion in Ipswich which can be achieved now.

Working Together for Long Term Solutions

Liberal Democrats believe in co-operating with like-minded politicians from other parties who are willing to put working for the people they represent above party ideology. Only by challenging others to create consensus can we achieve long term solutions to the problems we face.

This approach will be especially important as we transition from separate County and Borough councils to one unitary council for Ipswich, Felixstowe and South Suffolk. Only by working together can we ensure that our vital public services see a seamless transition.
